Pay close attention to any information about the application process – if you get it wrong you’re guaranteeing you’ll never get that job. Find out if you can send a CV or if you’ll need to fill out an application form. If they’ve requested a CV be sure to include a cover letter. If there’s an application form to fill in then don’t be lazy and just send off your CV – no matter how good it is it won’t stand a chance.
Never assume that an email application should not have the formality of a letter – it should! In any form of application you need to maintain a standard of formal, polite professionalism. Make sure everything is well presented and up-to-date, and tailor everything you send out to the specific job you’re applying for.
